I grew up on comic books, and saved my weekly ten-cent allowance in anticipation of the purchase of a thrilling adventure. Some of my favorites were ‘Richie Rich,’ ‘Archie’ and ‘Casper the Friendly Ghost.’ They were the silly ones, of course. No heavy-duty, shoot ‘em up, science-fiction or scary comics for me. I later learned that I missed out on a cult phenomena created by Marvel, namely that of ‘Captain America.’
‘Captain America’ returned, this time to the big screen, with a whomp and a bang, effortlessly knocking out ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2′ from the top slot, just a week after it landed there. Isn’t that just like Captain America?
Chris Evans is more than a little bit hot, in his role. Although, I must confess to laughing a bit at his unfit-for-soldier-duty character. He quickly became sizzle-ready, in a scene that quickly sucked me in. His body, of course, is not his greatest attribute. What really convinced me of all that I had been missing, was this superhero’s undying devotion to doing the right thing, because it’s the right thing. Almost unheard of anymore. So don’t take my word for it, hitch a ride on the Captain America cult and see for yourself.
